Missing tooth? No problem.
Dental Bridges
A Dental bridge is a fixed solution to replace a missing tooth or teeth by using the teeth either side of the gap as anchors. It is fitted into place, meaning it doesn’t need to be taken out at night unlike removable dentures.
Bridges can be a great alternative to dental implants or dentures. For example, if the teeth on either side of the gap are damaged, a bridge not only fills the gap, but also treats the teeth on either side in the process.
Type of bridges
Full coverage dental bridge – the teeth at one of either side of the gap need to be shaped to support the bridge. Due to the shaping required, this is only a good option if these teeth have been heavily restored or have crowns currently as we would like to be conservative with our approach and not unnecessarily prepare healthy teeth.
Resin Retained Bridge – replaces a missing tooth with an artificial tooth with “wings” which are cemented to the back of the adjacent teeth. This requires very little and in some cases no preparation to the natural teeth, however these can sometimes be less successful depending on factors like a strong bite. A maryland bridge is a good option if your teeth are healthy on either side of a gap and an implant is not an option.
Dentures
Dentures are a removal appliance used to replace missing teeth. These can be made from either acrylic or metal plates made to fit to your mouth with the missing teeth attached. Dentures are a good solution for replacing teeth and also providing support for lips and cheeks after tooth loss. They can also be used as a temporary stage in the dental implant process or the denture can be supported by dental implants also.
